Dániel Gazdag and Martin Ádám are among world’s most successful footballers in 2022, according to the rankings of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) published on Tuesday.
France’s Kylian Mbappe, a recent World Cup silver medalist, topped the ranking with a total of 56 goals last year. The striker, who scored 44 times for champions Paris Saint-Germain, 12 times for France, and was top scorer at the World Cup in Qatar, finished ahead of Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian striker, first with Borussia Dortmund and then Manchester City, scored 46 goals in 2022, including nine for the national team, while Bérgson, who is currently on loan in Malaysia, finished third with 46 goals without ever scoring for Brazil. Ranked between the two is the fact that the Malaysian league is ranked lower than the English league in the international football rankings.
Also missing out on the top ten this time around, is seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and reigning world champion Lionel Messi of Argentina, who has scored 35 goals for his French club PSG and national team, making him 11th in the world rankings. Last year’s total of 33 goals for Karim Benzema of France, the last Golden Ball winner with Real Madrid, was 16th, while Brazilian Neymar, who played with Mbappe and Messi at Paris Saint-Germain, scored 32 goals to take 20th place.
To make it to the IFFHS’ world ranking list that contains 67 names, one has to score at least 25 goals, which is exactly the amount scored by the two Hungarian national team players, Dániel Gazdag of the Philadelphia Union in the North American championship, and Ádám Martin, who joined South Korean club Ulsan from Paks last summer. Gazdag has scored one goal for the national team and 24 for his club, while Ádám has scored all 25 of his goals in league games for his two clubs.
