Witness the wonder! – is the slogan of the World Athletics Championships in Hungary, and it is no exaggeration to say that next August we can indeed see a wonder in Hungary, Demokrata writes.
According to the weekly, the National Athletics Center, which is built for the competition, will enrich Budapest with another high-quality building.
The World Athletics Championships is the third biggest sporting event in the world after the Olympics and the football World Cup. It is not only a big step for Hungary: after many major cities around the world, it will be the first time that an outdoor World Athletics Championships will be held in Central Europe.
Purpose-built National Athletics Centre will be the largest athletics competition and training centre in Central Europe. Superheroes will meet at #Budapest2023 to be held 19-27 Aug. As the queen of sports is coming to Hungary, a world-class facility will be built to match her stature. Located in the IX district, in a previously neglected brownfield site on the eastern bank of the Danube in the south of the city, the area of the new National Athletics Center will be a European-standard city center. Construction started in 2020. In July this year, work started on the roof, which lasted until December, Demokrata reminds.
I have been to several stadiums around the world, but I can safely say that ours will be the most beautiful in the world,
said Miklós Gyulai, President of the Hungarian Athletics Federation.
The 35,000-seat facility will have a capacity of 15,000 after the championships. Once the upper level is demolished, what will remain is a circular open space, a panoramic running track that will be open to the public.
