There is a growing trend for people to spend Christmas in hotels in Hungary. The choice is also beneficial for many people because it means they do not have to spend hours at home getting ready, baking, cooking and putting up the Christmas tree, and there are no holiday jitters. Instead, the hotel has everything ready for them and they can enjoy a relaxing holiday.
It is already fashionable for people to spend New Year’s Eve in a hotel, where there are often musical performances and shows. But in recent years, people are increasingly choosing to spend Christmas the same way. According to Szallas.hu, a booking portal, despite the rise in prices, more people are traveling this year than in previous years.
The number of bookings received by December 19 for the Christmas period increased by 30 percent compared to the previous year.
According to the portal, the most popular destinations during the festive period include Budapest, Eger, Hévíz, Gyula, and Zalakaros. In addition, more people are traveling not only at Christmas but also on New Year’s Eve: the number of pre-bookings has more than doubled compared to last year.
At the same time, prices have risen significantly by 23.5 percent compared to last year, with an average price per person per night of HUF 16,000 (EUR 40). However, the data also shows that half of Hungarian travelers opted for more expensive wellness accommodation, but apartments and guesthouses were also popular.
And hotels can expect a good start to the new year after a strong holiday period, with current figures already showing twice as many bookings for the first weeks of 2023 as this time last year.
