Christmas research conducted by Árukereső.hu, a Hungarian price comparison website, revealed not only which Christmas gifts are the most popular among Hungarians, but also that people are more conscious about the gifts they buy.
According to the survey, one in ten Hungarians would spend a maximum of HUF 10,000 (EUR 25) on a Christmas present, while more than a quarter of them would target the range between HUF 10,000 and 30,000 (between EUR 25 and 75). As it turns out, people are planning to spend similar amounts of money on gifts this year as last year, meaning that despite the worsening economic situation, they are trying to keep up Christmas gift-giving.
Half of those surveyed plan to use promotions to cut Christmas costs, while 20 percent plan to buy presents for fewer relatives.
Getting the best possible price is not the last consideration, making price comparison sites such as Árukereső.hu even more important. Mindfulness is also emerging among Hungarians, with more than half starting their Christmas shopping before December and around 40 percent collecting gift ideas all year round.
And what do Hungarians want most?
The top three categories for presents are household appliances, electronics, and clothes.
The survey revealed that many would be happy to find a coffee machine, laptop, smartphone, watch, book, or perfume under the tree. Meanwhile, most people believe that money is not a real Christmas gift, so they do not want to give it.
