The Hungarian team won five medals at the World Teqball Championships in Nuremberg, making it the most successful team in the competition.

Lea Vasas won a gold medal in women’s doubles with Zsanett Janicsek and in mixed doubles with Ádám Bakó. The men’s doubles pair of Ádám Bakó and Ádám Blázsovics took second place, while Anna Izsák also won silver in the women’s singles. The fifth medal went to Blázsovics, who finished third in the men’s singles. This is the first world championship where all Hungarian athletes won a medal.

“On the final day, only in the men’s singles we did not play a final, but there was a medal there, after Ádám Blázsovics won the bronze match. The Hungarian players have always been among the best in the world, but at the World Championships in Nuremberg, we confirmed our positions,″ Zoltán Nagy, the manager of the team said.

Fact

Teqball is a football-based sport, played on a specially-curved table (the Teq table), which is attracting a new generation of athletes and amateur enthusiasts (teqers), whose ambition is to develop their technical skills, concentration, and stamina. The sport, which was created in Hungary in 2012, is a truly gender-equitable game, as the rules define that teqball shall be played between two (singles) or four players (doubles), irrespective of gender. The sport follows a points-based scoring format and can be played on various surfaces such as sand, acrylic, or indoors. Teqball allows players a maximum of three touches before returning the ball to the opponent, so if you can juggle a football three times, you will excel at teqball as well.

Since 2016, Brazilian soccer legend Ronaldinho has been teqball’s global ambassador, making the Hungarian-developed sport popular in the world. “I could say so many good things about teqball. I love it, it is fun to play, it is fun to compete and it is growing so much,” he told Euronews last week.
