Enjoy Travel, a travel site, has compiled a list of the best countries to spend your retirement years in. Hungary is ranked seventh on the list of fifty countries.
According to the travel site, many people are looking forward to retirement, and they do not necessarily have to wait until they are in their 60s, thanks to a movement in favor of early retirement. FIRE stands for “Financial Independence, Retire Early,” encouraging people to achieve financial stability early, so they can stop working as early as their late 40s. However, this requires extreme saving and a lot of investment.
Even if you succeed in achieving early retirement, you have to figure out what to do with the rest of your years. Enjoy Travel‘s article offers options, listing countries where they have looked at weather, healthcare, hospitality, living standards, and cost of living, among other factors, to see which are the best places to retire.
The list includes 50 countries, with Hungary in seventh place. According to Enjoy Travel, “Hungary might not be as cheap as it was a decade ago, but compared to most of Europe the prices are staggeringly low. In fact, according to our index, the cost of eating out in Hungary is the second lowest in Europe. Quality of life is good too (137.15) and it’s relatively easy to get hold of a visa or residency permit. Most retirees choose to live in historic Budapest, around Lake Balaton or in a small charming city like Eger or Pécs. Healthcare is good, but dental care is even better.”
