The Hungarian language will be celebrated with a book launch, poetry recitation and playful literature lessons in Balatonfüred from Friday.
On the occasion of the Hungarian Language Day, November 13, a series of events will take place in the town on the shores of Lake Balaton.
The program starts with a poetry recitation in the Kiserdő (Little Forest) area on Friday. At the former stone theater columns, the students of Balatonfüred will recite Mihály Babits’ poem The Lyricist’s Epilogue.
Also on Friday evening, a literary evening will be organized at the Géza Szőcs Literary Salon, where the actor Sándor Lukács will present his poetry collection Kikötő (Port), published on the occasion of his 75th birthday. The elegiac poems, written during the pandemic, reflect on the finiteness of earthly existence.
On Saturday, the Eleven Poets’ Society will give a concert in the Kisfaludy Gallery, with music by contemporary poets. They will be joined by János Szentmártoni, poet, Zsolt Gréger, songwriter, András Keleti, singer and composer-producer of Budapest Bar. On Sunday, Mihály Praznovszky, literary historian, will give a lecture on Kálmán Mikszáth, the artist of the Hungarian language, and present his edited volume of Mikszáth’s short stories, Knights, Executioners, Lovers.
13 November 2011 was declared Hungarian Language Day by the Hungarian Parliament in commemoration of the adoption of the law making Hungarian the official language of the state in 1844.
