Migrants are trying to reach their desired destination at all cost, using every opportunity, which is proven by the latest case at Central-Hungary’s Lake Balaton.
Lake Balaton’s water police were alerted the other day with a report of a boater shouting for help because he could not get ashore. The police found that the Afghan man, who lives in Germany, had previously stolen the boat, which he said he wanted to use in order to row to Italy. The 24-year-old man, who believed he was in the Czech Republic, was rescued and then prosecuted.
Italy in fact faces severe migration pressure with migrants arriving by boat. With the arrival of new groups in the last 24 hours, the number of migrants arriving on Italian shores since the beginning of the year has risen to over 72,000, according to figures released by the Interior Ministry.
On the island of Lampedusa, 80 people landed in two separate boats. One was carrying Tunisians, who are considered to be economic migrants, while the other group was made up of people from Gambia, Senegal, Sudan, Egypt, and Bangladesh.
According to the Trieste Financial Police, 141 immigrants in the region have been identified as having illegally benefited from the basic income introduced in 2019, and formal proceedings have been launched against them. These immigrants are living in camps on state benefits, but have received between €400 and €800 per person over nine months by falsifying data.
