Wizz Air has negotiated the purchase of 75 new A321neo aircraft with Airbus, with the majority of the aircraft expected to be delivered in 2028-29, the airline told MTI on Monday.
According to the statement, the acquisition of the 75 new A321neo aircraft is another step towards Wizz Air’s goal of tripling the size of its fleet to 500 aircraft by the end of the decade, as previously announced.
The new A321neo aircraft will also offer significant environmental benefits thanks to its modern aviation technology solutions, with noise emissions reduced by around 50 percent, fuel consumption reduced by 20 percent, and nitrogen oxide emissions reduced by 50 percent.
József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air, said in the statement that the airline’s ultra-low cost model and the market-leading Airbus A321neo aircraft will create a strong platform for Wizz Air’s growth over the next decade.
Wizz Air currently operates a fleet of 165 Airbus A320ceo, A321ceo, A320neo, and A321neo aircraft with an average age of less than five years.
WizzAir, a Hungarian low-cost airline, closed the 2021/2022 financial year ending March this year with a loss of €642.5 million, up from €576 million in the previous year, while its revenue more than doubled to €1.66 billion from €739 million in the previous year. In its last financial year, WizzAir carried 27.1 million passengers, compared with 10.2 million the previous year.
