The Hungarian U18 women’s water polo team has won a bronze medal at the World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
According to the website of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), the team of women’s junior national captain, Péter Biros, and head coach, Márton Benczur, defeated Italy, Kazakhstan, and Turkey in the group stage and then beat Australia 13-10 in the quarter-finals.
In the semi-finals, Greece beat Hungary 10-9, who beat Italy 9-5 in the bronze medal match on Monday.
Goalkeeper Szonja Golopencza was the best in the pool with 12 saves, and for her efforts throughout the tournament, she received the ultimate goalkeeping award as well. Teammate Zoé Lendvay scored three goals and Kata Hajdú two, to make her the team’s highest scorer with 23.

said Zelma Kóka.
It was the second medal for the discipline at a world tournament this summer, with the U19 women’s team winning a silver medal at the European Championships in Israel in mid-July.
The USA won the Championships with Greece securing the silver medal.
