I was shaken to hear about the tragic bus accident of Polish pilgrims in Croatia.
My deepest condolences to the families of the victims. My thoughts and prayers are with our Polish friends and I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” she wrote.
A Polish bus veered off the motorway then crashed into a wall in Croatia in the early hours of Saturday. Twelve people died in the accident and 32 were injured – 19 of them are in critical condition. The bus entered Croatia from the direction of Hungary and the accident happened 60 kilometers from Zagrab, the Croatian capital. The passengers were Polish pilgrims on their way to Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to recent information, the driver probably fell asleep behind the wheel and this is what caused the tragedy.
This is not the first time that Polish pilgrims have suffered a deadly accident. Twenty years ago, a bus with Polish pilgrims also on their way to Medjugorje entered a roundabout near Balatonkeresztúr in Hungary, without slowing down. The bus overturned and twenty people died in the accident.
