A Wizz Air flight from Bari to Krakow was interrupted at Budapest airport due to a bomb threat, and passengers were evacuated by emergency evacuation. The affected runway was closed until the investigation was completed in the evening, and Wizz Air later announced that the threat had been false and that passengers could continue their journey on an alternate flight, AIRportal.hu reports.
On Wednesday afternoon, Wizz Air flight W6 5058 from Bari to Krakow was stopped at Liszt Ferenc International Airport due to a bomb threat.
The A321neo aircraft landed on runway 31R and came to a stop in holding bay B5, where it was surrounded by firefighters, and passengers were evacuated on emergency slides.
Wizz Air confirmed the news to AIRportal.hu and said that the flight had received an anonymous bomb threat, after which the aircraft made an emergency landing.
The aircraft crew and the airline’s operations control center acted according to the relevant protocol. The aircraft landed safely in Budapest and the authorities are currently carrying out the necessary checks to establish whether the threat was false. Passengers and crew have already been evacuated,”
they added.
In response to a question from AIRportal.hu, Budapest Airport said in the afternoon that Runway 2 of Liszt Ferenc International Airport was closed due to the incident, but that this did not affect the departure and arrival of flights, and the airport was operating without any disruptions. The passengers of the affected flight have been accommodated by Budapest Airport on Passenger Pier B. They were safe and were provided with drinking water by airport staff and medical care.
Wizz Air said that the competent authorities had carried out the necessary checks in accordance with the protocol and confirmed that it was a false threat.
