It is likely that the animal, which has been seen several times lately, was spotted again near Kismaros, Pest county, Budapest Környéke reports.
The news of the latest bear sighting, which was about 55 kilometers from Budapest, spread on Facebook. The case has been officially reported, and the municipality of Kótolya is asking residents to stay away from the forest.
“Hello! At 0:39 a bear walked past our car at the Morgó turn! Everybody watch out!”, read a post on Facebook, in which one of the witnesses reported the sighting.
The official report came to István Jancsó, a professional hunter, who can neither confirm nor deny that bears are indeed in the area, but as bears can travel long distances in a relatively short time, it is not impossible, 0627.hu writes.
In order to monitor the bear’s movements, Pilisi Parkerdő Zrt., in coordination with the Directorate of the Danube-Ipoly National Park, has installed game cameras.
We have also reported about the bear sightings in Hungary lately, in this and this article.
