Bertalan Havasi said late on Tuesday that King of Spain Felipe VI had welcomed the leaders in Madrid at a gala dinner in the royal palace.

Referring to the NATO summit, Orbán said:

We will not support any proposal that could drag NATO or Hungary into this conflict, because this is a Russian-Ukrainian war and NATO is a defensive alliance.”

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó also took part in the meeting. Both sides had agreed that a spillover of the war in Ukraine must be prevented, that the Ukrainian population must receive support, and that refugees must be given protection.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that the Allies will also adopt a comprehensive package of support for Ukraine at the three-day meeting.

It is of utmost importance that we are ready to continue our support to Ukraine, which is facing brutality in Europe not seen since World War II,”

he stressed.

Jens Stoltenberg expressed hope for progress in Finland’s and Sweden’s accession to NATO, and said that more investment in defense is needed “if we are to defend ourselves in a more dangerous world.”
