The 4×200 freestyle relay team of Kristóf Milák, Nándor Németh, Balázs Holló, and Richárd Márton achieved a new Hungarian record and finished in fifth place at the Budapest World Aquatics Championships.
The Hungarian team finished in fifth place with a new national record of 7:06.24, improving by one second on the morning’s record of 7:07.46.
Commenting after the event, Nándor Németh said that this was the first time they had teamed up, although they swam together as juniors, but “this is an adult World Championships, it’s different,” everyone did their best, and they swam well. (They even won the gold medal at the 2017 World Junior Championships in Indianapolis, setting a world record for their age group, ahead of the Americans). Richárd Márton shook his head as he said he was very surprised that the others had pulled ahead, it was a shock, but they will do better next time.
Kristóf Milák claimed that the start was quite strong, asking what time he turned at 50 and 100 meters, but added that he was less strong at the end, but tried his best; they all swam their best and should be proud of themselves. Balázs Holló said he really likes swimming with the others, cheering each other on before and after the results, but he is angry with himself for swimming worse than he did in the morning. He’s not happy about that, but he’s happy with the national best, but he said he wanted to do better.
The United States won the event with a time of 7:00.24, with Australia in second place and Great Britain third, replacing Brazil. The Hungarian women’s 4×200 freestyle relay team also finished in fifth place.
