Six wine regions, sixty-five wineries from twenty-two wine regions, and forty musical ensembles will present themselves at this year’s Debrecen Wine and Jazz Days, which will be held between August 4-7 on the banks of Lake Békás in Nagyerde, the organizers announced at a press conference on Thursday.
István Puskás, Deputy Mayor for Culture of Debrecen, noted that the Jazz Days is Hungary’s oldest jazz festival, first held in Debrecen in 1972, and in a few years it has become an Eastern European music meeting.
The city considers it important to promote quality Hungarian wine culture, not only by organizing festivals but also by selecting the city’s wines every year. Cooperation between Debrecen and the Érmellék, the former vineyard of the city, is becoming increasingly intense, the deputy mayor said.
Jazz and wine are a perfect pairing and will provide an unrepeatable experience for visitors to Lake Békás, said Réka Mészáros, managing director of Főnix Rendezeväkszervező Közhasznú Nonprofit Kft.
The Debrecen Wine and Jazz Days are also special and different from other similar events in the country, because the three music stages will feature the best of the best Hungarian jazz musicians and bands: young, experimental jazz musicians and experienced, well-known jazz masters will play in nearly forty ensembles in Nagyerdő, he added.
Réka Mészáros also said that this year’s motto, “It’s going to be a hit!”, refers to both the musical line-up and this year’s theme: the world of percussions. The latter is marked by the names of four drummers: Ádám Ákos Szumper, Ambrus Richter, Péter Szendőfi, and István Baló.
