Kristóf Milák of Hungary won the men’s 200m butterfly event with a world record time of 1:50.34 minutes in the 19th World Aquatics Championships in Budapest on Tuesday.
According to Kristóf Milák, it was time to swim an “individual best,” and the crowd in Duna Arena helped him to do so, where he defended his title in the 200m butterfly at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest.
“I’ve been thinking a lot over the last three years, it’s been so long since my last individual record, it was time,” said the 22-year-old Olympic champion at the international press conference at Duna Arena. He noted that he had not expected it to come so quickly after changing coaches following the Tokyo Olympics, when he started working with Balázs Virth.

The Hungarian star swimmer was asked by foreign journalists mainly whether it was possible to break the 1:50 minute barrier, which was thought unthinkable years ago. “I can honestly say that today I did not even think of a 1:50 time. Everybody is asking for 49, I’m working on it, but it takes time.”
Milák finished 3.03 seconds in front of French swimmer Leon Marchand and 3.27 ahead of Japan’s Tomoru Honda. The other Hungarian swimmer in the same event, Tamás Kenderesi, finished the race in 6th place.
