In a post published Tuesday on High-Tech-Force, the official Facebook page of Gáspár Maróth, government commissioner for defense sector development, it was revealed that Hungary is in advanced negotiations to purchase Rheinmetall HX-3 artillery. Of course, this concerns not only production but also procurement.
This article was originally published on our sister-site, Ungarn Heute.
As Maróth’s video shows, the HX-3 L60’s gun can reach a range of about 82-85 kilometers with “smart ammunition.” This is significant, because according to Maróth:
It has a greater range than the artillery units currently being fired by the Russians in Ukraine.”
The HX3 can be mounted on a 4×4, 6×6, 8×8, and 10×10 truck platform, and the self-propelled gun carriage has a caliber of 155 millimeters, Napi.hu reports. The German weapon is one of the most modern developments: It was unveiled on May 6, 2021.
The HX3 was built by Rheinmetall using military-grade components from German vehicle manufacturer MAN, and features emergency braking assist, cruise control, and lane departure warning. It will also have a partial self-driving mode.
As the German company wrote on its website: “More than 16,000 HX trucks are on the road worldwide, deployed by armed forces. They all carry a heritage that is expressed in unrivaled superiority. We have built on this heritage. In order to make the best even better, we listened to everyone who has been able to get to know and appreciate it – not only in everyday use but also in the most extreme situations. Be it as fleet manager or as a soldier on the vehicle.”
The innovations in this truck, which is consistently designed for military use, are more than impressive. Thanks to the various assistance systems, the HX3 ensures greater safety in everyday use: for soldiers and the civilian environment. It also guarantees significantly greater occupant protection, for example, thanks to the completely redesigned cab.
