Hungarian Gripens Scrambled Due to Bomb Threat on Serbian Aircraft

Hungarian Gripen fighter jets were scrambled by NATO’s Combined Air Operations Centre on Friday afternoon because of a bomb threat on a Serbian-registered passenger aircraft flying from Saint Petersburg to Belgrade, the defense ministry told MTI.

The Gripens escorted the A319 aircraft out of Hungarian airspace, the ministry said.

The jets were alerted for a second time on Friday afternoon for a similar reason when a Moscow-Belgrade flight reported a bomb threat. The aircraft, also an A319, registered in Serbia, was escorted out of Hungarian airspace, the ministry said in a statement.

The airliner travelling from Belgrade to St. Petersburg received the bomb threat over Poland, from where it was turned back, the defence ministry said.Continue reading
