Far-right Mi Hazánk Vows to Be ‘Fierce Opposition’

MTI-Hungary Today 2022.04.05.

The far-right Mi Hazánk (Our Homeland) party will be “fierce and very tough” in opposition “if the government takes steps that harm Hungary”, party leader László Toroczkai told public television on Tuesday.

“We are a completely different kind of party,” he said, adding there was a need for a party which functioned differently to Fidesz “and these left-liberal parties”, Toroczkai said.

Referring to left and liberal parties, he vowed to “sweep any proposal off the table if tendered by another party”.

Toroczkai said working to the benefit of Hungary was Mi Hazánk’s priority, he said, adding that it could support government or opposition proposals if they were good for the country.

Toroczkai hailed his party’s achievement in winning seven seats, which means Mi Hazánk will be able to form a parliamentary group of a similar size to Jobbik’s — a former radical party which moved to the centre-right — and have seats in parliamentary committees.

Meanwhile, Toroczkai said attempts had been made to silence his party in the election campaign, noting that Facebook took down its page and an attack was made against their website “to prevent us from winning seats in parliament”.
