Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó presented citizenship documents to the grandchild and great-grandchild of Ferenc Puskás.
The Minister shared photos of the event on his Facebook page, writing:
What makes a nation great? It’s less a function of territory and population than of raw materials or military power. For there is a more important question: could a nation give the world a legend who could make not only his own country happy but also the sons and daughters of other countries? Ferenc Puskás was undoubtedly such a man, whose legend lives with us to this day.”
Isabela Damborena Puskas and Ane de Juan Damborena received the documents in Bozsik Aréna in Budapest.
According to Telex, Szijjártó said that the name of the legendary striker of the Golden Team has become synonymous with Hungary, and citizens of any nation are happy to remember him. He stressed that Puskás was and still is our country’s ambassador to the world without any title or official procedure.
The Foreign Minister added that Puskás was not only one of the best footballers in the history of the world, but also an outstanding man, held in the highest esteem even by his rivals. According to him, Ferenc Puskás was a true Hungarian man. “Even when the communist dictatorship wanted to expel him from the ranks of Hungarians, he always wanted to come home, and he passed on his love of his country to his descendants,” he said.
