A medical team of more than 30 nurses and psychologists is currently waiting at the Hungarian border in Beregsurány for refugees from Ukraine in need of care. András Spányik, one of the volunteer doctors, told Telex that they provide psychological and medical care, and the refugees arriving there are treated completely free of charge and without any papers.

They will not only be in Beregsurány but will also visit several border villages in the coming days. They arrived on the scene with mobile health buses, supplied with the equipment at a standard doctor’s office: ECG, bandages, IVs, blood glucose meters, etc. They assume that the crisis itself can cause problems and that chronic patients can, for example, run out of medication or have their blood pressure skyrocket. The doctor added that people in such circumstances may also be more susceptible to infections, and children are even more vulnerable. The foundation Medical Aid Where It Is Needed, established by doctors, has covered the cost of the equipment, so they need donations and more doctors. They all went to the border at the expense of their paid work time to volunteer to help.
We felt a moral obligation to help in this aggressive situation. This is our job, this is our vocation,”
Spányik said.
A few days ago, Semmelweis University in Budapest announced that they will also take care of refugees from Ukraine. They are even offering training in the Hungarian language to medical students and jobs to teachers.
