The key figure of the recent corruption scandal, György Schadl, was discovered to have a diplomatic passport on his person following his arrest at the airport in November. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó explained that following the revealing of the corruption scandal between the president of the branch of bailiffs and the deputy justice minister at the time, the passport was revoked on January 3.

Upon his arrest on November 5, 2021, a diplomatic passport was found on the person of György Schadl. He was attempting to fly to Dubai with his wife. 444.hu asked Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office Gergely Gulyás why the branch president was given diplomatic status, to which he responded that all chamber heads have diplomatic passports.

This, however, is not the case.

In response to ATV News’ question last Friday, Péter Szijjártó said that he provided Schadl with a diplomatic passport because Völner requested him to do so. “I received an official request in February of last year from the deputy justice minister, state secretary Pál Völner, asking that we provide the chamber president with a diplomatic passport.”

Szijjártó explained that he followed up on the request, but revoked the passport after news of corruption broke out.

If a deputy minister from another ministry turns to us with such a request, I tend to do enough for them.”

In his confession, Schadl stated that he had been given such a passport by the foreign ministry in order to attend international conferences during the pandemic.
