Military Chief: Hungarians in Africa Serving Hungarian Interests

MTI-Hungary Today 2022.01.11.

Hungarian troops stationed in the Sahel region are “serving important Hungarian interests”, assisting with problems where those problems are generated, Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, commander of the Hungarian military, told a roundtable in Budapest on Monday.

The military chief noted the large number of terrorist groups in the region, which led to internal migration between those countries as well as an exodus of people for fear of those groups oppressing local residents. He warned that “the movements of terrorist or jihadist groups are not easy to monitor, and they could appear anywhere, anytime; even at Hungary’s southern borders”.

Ruszin-Szendi said that Hungary had joined the Takuba international mission in the region, adding that the operations were expected to “take long but turn out successful in the long run”.
