By January 3rd, 48,000 children between the ages of 5 and 11 were vaccinated against the coronavirus in Hungary, which means that so far, around 7-8% of children have received the vaccine.
According to data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office for 2021, there are just over 646,000 children between the ages of 5 and 11 living in Hungary.
The vaccination of children between 5 and 11 started on December 15th after the first shipment of Pfizer’s vaccine for children arrived in Hungary on December 13th.
István György, State Secretary and head of the Vaccination Task Force, said that vaccination of children has started in 77 hospitals where pediatric care is provided, as well as at general practitioners, Telex reports. Appointments and pre-registration are also required at hospitals, as vaccines are only available in limited quantities. The vaccine will arrive on a continuous basis every week.
Another 150,000 doses of children’s vaccines are expected to arrive in Hungary in the first month of the year: 48,000 doses on January 4th, 48,000 doses again on January 11th, and 54,000 doses on January 18th, as reported on koronavirus.gov.hu on Monday.
