Hotel Avar in the resort town of Mátrafüred in northern Hungary has won the title of “Accommodation of the Year” in the competition organized by the online travel agency szallas.hu, with Balatonfüred on Lake Balaton, the spa town of Hévíz, near Keszthely, and Gyula in the east becoming the tourist towns of the year.

The Avar Hotel in Mátrafüred received a good rating on szállás.hu barely a year after its opening, which was also confirmed by the written comments of guests – justifying the title “Accommodation of the Year 2021.”
As for the cities: In the “Tourist City of the Year” award, the city of Gyula in the east came in first, because there, “the wellness, the history, and the culture are on a common denominator”. Second is Balatonfüred on Lake Balaton, known for its traditional Anna Balls, its bubbling cultural life, and the tasty Lake Balaton wines. The third place went to the spa town of Hévíz, near Keszthely, where you can not only relax in the thermal lake but also try the excellent local gastronomy.
The “Tourist Attraction of the Year” award went to Nyíregyháza Zoo, Sárvár Spa, Szigliget Castle on Lake Balaton, the Museum of the Hungarian Language, Budapest Castle Garden Bazaar and Nádasdy Castle in Nádasdladány.
