The conditions to be met by the new Hungarian astronaut have been published. The mission, scheduled to last 30-60 days, will see a Hungarian astronaut fly into space in the middle of the decade to test “world-class Hungarian innovations” and conduct unique experiments on the International Space Station (ISS), HVG reports.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, previously announced that Hungary will be sending the astronaut to the ISS in cooperation with the United States. Recently, the Ministers of Hungary and Finland have also signed a space industry deal under which companies and universities of the two countries will have the chance to tighten cooperation.
In line with international standards, a high degree of mental resilience, a good level of English, and a strong, balanced personality are required. For applicants to the national astronaut program, a combination of real achievement, outstanding technical and scientific skills, and patriotism is a prerequisite,”
said Orsolya Ferencz, Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research and Space Activities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The European Space Agency (ESA) is involved in the selection process, which entails thorough physical and psychological examinations in accordance with with rigorous international standards.
Applications are open until January 31, 2022.
