Romanian President Thanks Hungary for Aid Against Coronavirus

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has thanked Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for the Hungarian government’s assistance with efforts against the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement from the Romanian president’s office quoted Iohannis as calling the Hungarian government’s aid a “true European gesture of solidarity”, with special regard to the Hungarian authorities transporting and hospitalizing Romanian Covid patients in Szeged (S) and Debrecen (E).

With regard to the serious situation in Romania, the Hungarian government sent medicine and ventilators and agreed to hospitalize 50 patients in critical condition. So far, 20 patients have been transported to Hungary from Timișoara (Temesvár) and Oradea (Nagyvárad). One of the patients, however, died in transit.

On Friday alone, nearly 16,000 new cases were reported in Romania, while 363 coronavirus patients died.
