Six Georgian citizens have been evacuated from Afghanistan via a Hungarian military plane, Georgia’s Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday. According to Agenda.ge, the Hungarian flight safely landed in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.

Alexander Khvtisiashvili, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia, explained that “we are cooperating with partner states to ensure the return of our citizens via flights which are already scheduled if we will not be able to send a plane soon.” There are still 16 Georgians in Afghanistan, and the country has had difficulty getting planes to Kabul due to the chaos of the situation there.

All of the 22 Georgians who were in Afghanistan are former soldiers, who served as private contractors for either Canadian or American companies.
