Hungarian Students Show Academic Excellence at Math and Science Olympiads

Tokyo is not the only international stage where Hungarians are showing their capabilities this year. One gold, nine silver, and nine bronze medals were won by Hungarian students at the four Science Olympiads held in July and early August.

Four silver medals were won at the International Biology Olympiad, one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals were won at the International Physics Olympiad. One silver and five bronze medals were won at the International Mathematical Olympiad, and two silver and two bronze medals were won at the International Chemistry Olympiad.

The Hungarian team’s preparations for the International Biology Olympiad, held between July 18 and 23, were led by Sándor Bán, and silver medals were won by Kata Kóta, Bich Diep Nguyen, Máté Márk Szekér, and Márton Szabó.

At the International Physics Olympiad, held from July 17 to 24, Csaba Balázs Kovács won gold, Endre Bokor and Balázs Bonifert won silver, and Vázsony Varga and Ábel Levente Tóth won bronze.

The International Mathematical Olympiad took place between July 14 and 24. It was here where Hungarian students won the most medals; silver to Zsombor Várkonyi and bronze to Erik Füredi, Tamás Kovács, Kornél György Szabó, Zsigmond Fleiner, and Nóra Zoé Velich.

The International Chemistry Olympiad was the most recent, taking place between July 24 and August 2. Gábor Magyarfalvi, adjunct of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), stated that Lucio Saracco and Dávid Benkő won silver while István Babcsányi and Benedek Sajósi won bronze.

The team was created by ELTE’s Chemistry Institute, which selected contenders based off the results of national science competitions. Magyarfalvi participated as the Olympiad committee’s president for the fourth time in a row.
