Former Star Player Gallas to Join Zalaegerszeg Football Team as Youth Coach

Hungary Today 2021.07.29.

Former world-class defender, William Gallas, is going to take up a youth coaching job at Zalaegerszeg’s ZTE from September on, the first division club’s presidency announced.

Back in the day, William Gallas, who soon turns 44, was an internationally recognized footballer who played for star clubs like Olympique Marseille, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham. Besides winning the Premier League twice, he also won a silver medal with the French national team at the 2006 World Cup (only defeated on penalties by Italy) and the Confederations Cup, earning 84 caps in total. He reportedly has been living in Hungary for years now.

According to the one-time Hungarian champion club, Gallas’s main task will be the blue-whites youth defenders’ (from under 12 to under 17) individual development training. In addition, he would help out on building ZTE’s international relations too.

“We wish to realize such a level of training in Zalaegerszeg that will help young people reach [Hungarian 1st division] NB I or even higher levels. We were able to gain former world-class player, William Gallas, for this program. While he will consult the first team’s defenders too, he will be tasked with focusing on those youth players in whom he sees potential for further development, if they can be either midfielders or wing-backs. Our goal is to focus uniquely on this gap-filling role in domestic football,” ZTE owner Gábor Végh commented upon Gallas’ arrival.
