Hundreds of thousands of people pass through the Shibuya Crossing on the busiest days, with up to 3,000 people crossing the green signal at a time. Now, they can watch a short film about the most successful Hungarian athletes while in traffic. The Embassy of Hungary in Tokyo, in a joint project with the Hungarian Olympic Committee, is promoting Hungarian athletes and sporting successes at one of Tokyo’s most famous landmarks.
Besides the usual advertising sign, large TV screens mounted on nearby buildings overlook the crossing, which are prominent features of the Japanese capital’s busy junction. On one of the largest screens, the message of the Hungarian Olympic team is being broadcast several times an hour between 9 A.M. and 8 P.M. The 15-second-long montage of Hungarian Olympians illustrates the core messages of the Olympic Movement both in Hungarian and Japanese.
The aim of the project is to make more people aware of Hungary both in Japan and around the world, and to popularize Hungarian sports successes during the Olympic Games, which are being held under strict measures due to the coronavirus pandemic.
