4iG Announces Space Industry Cooperation with Axiom Space

MTI-Hungary Today 2025.02.17.

4iG Space and Defense Technologies (4iG S&D) has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Houston-based Axiom Space. Their aim is to explore and develop joint space industry cooperation opportunities, including in the area of orbital data center (ODC) services, 4iG announced on Monday.

According to their press release, the parties will set up a joint working group to explore areas for development along the synergies between the companies.

Houston-based space infrastructure developer Axiom Space is a leader in commercial spaceflight and space infrastructure development. The company is building the world’s first commercial space station. The US aerospace company provides solutions for microgravity research, with a focus on in-space data networks, storage, and processing.

HUNOR, the Hungarian astronaut program, is also a partner of Axiom Space.

As reported by Hungary Today, Axiom Space’s fourth commercial astronaut mission (Ax-4) will be launched this year. The mission is particularly relevant for Hungary, as the crew includes Tibor Kapu, a mechanical engineer, who was selected as an astronaut for the Hungarian to the Orbit (HUNOR) Program in May last year. During the first press conference of the mission, Kapu revealed the Hungarian space program’s main focus, and gave an insight into the research program, to be carried out on the ISS (International Space Station).

4iG S&D is an independent holding company combining the space and defense industrial interests of the 4iG Group, with the aim of entering the global market in satellite development, manufacturing, operation, satellite services, drone manufacturing, drone defense, defense industrial, and digitalization services.

The objective of 4iG S&D’s HUSAT Program, the first privately-initiated satellite program in Central and Eastern Europe, is to launch a constellation of one geostationary, and a total of eight low-earth orbit Earth observation satellites by 2032,

the release said.

Fact

The expansion of 4iG in the space sector has been a high priority of the Budapest-based company in recent times. In December 2024, Gellért Jászai, Chairman of Board of the 4iG Group, attended the meeting between Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Donald Trump, Elon Musk (Head of the Department of Government Efficiency since 2025), and Michael Waltz (US National Security Advisor since 2025) in Florida. A key point of the meeting was the presentation of the 4iG Group’s HUSAT satellite program.

US space company SpaceX’s launch services and other commercial and technological partnership opportunities were also discussed at the time. Elon Musk is known as the founding CEO of SpaceX.
