Thirty thousand visitors are expected at this year’s Farmer Expo, which will be held for the 32nd time between 17-20 August at the University of Debrecen (DE) campus on Böszörményi út, fair director László Vaszkó told MTI on Tuesday.

At the 32nd Farmer Expo International Agricultural and Food Exhibition and the 18th Hortico Fruit and Vegetable Horticultural Exhibition in Hungary’s second-largest city, the regional center of the Northern Great Plain region, 280 exhibitors will present their products on 20,000 square meters.

This year the focus of the exhibition will be on innovation.

“With population growth and the resulting dynamic increase in global food demand, scarcity of water resources and increasingly frequent extreme weather conditions, there is a worldwide focus on new agricultural technology solutions, which is also the focus of Farmer Expo,” said László Vaszkó, noting that automation and robotization are increasing efficiency in both livestock and crop production, pointing towards sustainable agriculture.

The tools, processes and solutions presented at the fair all showcase the potential to increase efficiency in the sector while also taking sustainability into account. At the exhibitors’ stands, visitors will be able to see a wide range of solutions for precision farming, he highlighted.

According to László Vaszkó, this time the organizers are looking forward to three major conferences. The conference on plant production will be held under the theme “Efficient but different”, where experts will exchange views on whether the sector should move towards a fertilizer- and chemical-free approach and start to rebuild the soil biological balance that has been destroyed over decades.

The livestock conference will focus on recyclable materials in modern livestock production, while the pig conference will focus on price developments and profitability.

László Vaszkó added that the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture will organize a professional day and round-table discussions on the prospects of the grain market, land issues, the new agricultural support system, the advantages of a short food supply chain and the challenges of the labor market, among other topics. At the Farmer Expo, experts will review the situation of the sour cherry sector in Hungary, the challenges of crop protection in sour cherry production and the issues of economical nutrient supply.

Fact

Farmer-Expo is one of Hungary’s leading international agricultural and food industry trade fairs, which from the very beginning has been consciously aiming to provide the participants and partners of the agribusiness sector group with the widest and most effective opportunities to establish contacts, deepen relationships, compete and, in short, to move forward.

The exhibition will therefore provide a forum for national and foreign companies, businesses and organizations directly involved in agricultural production, and those related to and in partnership with this sector, to present their products and services.

The program also includes a growing range of professional events each year, providing an opportunity for professionals working in specific fields to acquire new and important knowledge, the latest research, production results or other experience of direct practical use.
