European Week of Sport Starts with a Night Light Run at the National Athletics Center

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.08.31.

The State Secretariat for Sport of the Ministry of Defense and the National Sports Agency will organize the LED’S RUN night light run on September 23 at the National Athletics Center, a new venue.

A special feature of the event, which was a great success last year, is that the facility will open its doors for the first time since the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, the State Secretariat noted in a statement on Thursday. It was emphasized that

the program, launched last September, aims to promote lifelong, regular and, if possible, organized sporting activities.

LED’S RUN is a community sporting event offering a unique experience where runners can explore the hidden corners of an iconic sports facility, last year the Puskás Arena and this year the National Athletics Center. The opening event of the European Week of Sport will thus combine the joy of movement and discovery with the festival atmosphere,” pointed out State Secretary for Sport Ádám Schmidt. “Participants will get to know the National Athletics Center inside and out, be the first to discover the unique panoramic running track, run across the iconic footbridge and walk where the sport’s greatest athletes prepared for their competitions.”

The Sporting Nation Program will provide technical T-shirts and lighting equipment for the runners, but participants can also bring their own lighting equipment to make the run even more spectacular. Those with families and children are encouraged to run the two-kilometer course, while those who want to follow in the footsteps of the champions can enter the five-kilometer race. The organizers can accommodate up to 3,500 runners and entries can be made on the event website.

The European Week of Sport is one of the biggest campaigns to promote sport and active lifestyles, launched by the European Commission in 2015.

The program aims to get European citizens moving as much as possible for a week between September 23 and 30 each year, and if possible to stay active after the week.
