250 Experts Agree: Törley’s Sparkling Wines Are Exceptional

Hungary Today 2025.03.21.

Törley Sparkling Wine Cellar won two gold medals at one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions. The awards were given based on the opinions of two hundred and fifty wine experts from fifty-five countries. The Hungarian champagne producer won awards with the Francois brand, reported Világgazdaság.

Francois President Brut and Louis Francois & Co. Brut Nature Raw Sparkling Wine also won gold medals at the Mundus Vini Spring Tasting wine competition in Germany. The jury, which consists of about 250 wine experts, selects the winners from more than 6000 entries over four days. They awarded gold medals to Törley’s two champagnes this year, recognizing the exceptional qualities of these products.

Francois champagnes are made exclusively using traditional methods, from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from the Etyek-Buda wine region.

“The Francois champagne family, founded in 1886, has been in Törley’s product range since 1982, and we were the first to introduce raw champagne as a category to the general public in Hungary in the early 2000s, recognizing that consumers have a demand for a truly special taste,” said András Csomay, marketing manager of Törley Champagne Winery. As he added, this type of champagne is not only a favorite of gourmets, but also one of the biggest challenges for champagne masters, since even the smallest mistakes are easily noticeable here.

In the world of champagnes, the difference between Brut and Brut Nature lies primarily in the sugar content. While in the case of Brut champagnes, a minimal amount of expedition liqueur is added, thus fine-tuning the flavor, in the case of Brut Nature, also known as Zero Dosage, champagnes, the champagne masters leave out the dosage. As a result,

Brut Nature champagnes show the character of raw champagne in their natural purity, highlighting all its small nuances,

explained the champagne master.

The history of Francois champagnes dates back nearly 140 years. Its namesake, Louis François – who previously came to Hungary at the invitation of József Törley – is a descendant of a Champagne family that has been involved in champagne production for several generations. Together with his brother, Cézare, Louis later established the now iconic Louis Francois & Co. champagne winery, which has been present on the market with an unchanged logo and values ever since.
