Following the injury of FC Barcelona’s number one goalkeeper, German international Marc-André ter Stegen, Áron Yaakobishvili has been named in the first team squad of one of the world’s top football clubs.
On Tuesday, the news was reported on several fan portals, and Marca (Spanish sports daily) has already published a video of the 18-year-old Yaakobishvili, who was born in Budapest and is of Georgian origin, training with the rest of the team. FC Barcelona will take on Getafe CF on Wednesday, and the Hungarian has been named as the third goalkeeper in the squad, after Iñaki Peña and Ander Astralaga.
Yaakobishvili joined the Catalan football club in 2018 and is currently defending for the FC Barcelona Atlètic youth team, with his current contract running until next summer.
Incidentally, Áron’s brother Antal Yaakobishvili also plays in Spain, but for Girona FC.
Barcelona’s number one goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen suffered a serious injury in the previous league match against Villarreal CF, tearing a ligament in his right knee and requiring surgery. He is expected to miss 8 months, meaning he is unlikely to play this season.
