Minister of Defense, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky announced that the Hungarian Defense Forces’ armored brigade in Tata (northwestern Hungary), has received three new Leopard 2A7HU tanks, increasing their total to 21, reports honvedelem.hu.

The Minister emphasized that the rearmament of the 11th Tank Battalion is progressing as planned, transitioning from the outdated T-72 tanks.

He noted that this development aligns with Hungary’s commitment to enhancing its defense capabilities.

The Leopard 2A7HU is the Hungarian version of the German Leopard 2A7+, renowned for its advanced technology and capabilities. These tanks feature high accuracy, a modernized, modular turret armor design, and can be equipped with additional active protection systems, offering enhanced safety and performance.

The acquisition of these state-of-the-art tanks, combined with domestic training and factory training in Germany, aims to strengthen the country’s military readiness. By 2028, Hungary expects to receive a total of 44 high-tech military vehicles, marking a significant step in its defense modernization efforts.
