Organizers expect over 10,000 participants for the Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon, set to take place on September 8.
This 39th edition is anticipated to be the most popular Hungarian half marathon since the COVID pandemic, with 8,500 runners already registered for the 21.1-kilometer race and an additional 4,000 participants for other distances. Approximately 20% of the runners will be tackling the half marathon for the first time.
Árpád Kocsis, CEO of Budapest Sportiroda (Budapest Sports Office), expressed enthusiasm about the event:
the Hungarian running community has emerged strong from the pandemic, and even a hot summer did not stop runners from preparing for the first big competition of the autumn season. This is the official Hungarian half-marathon championship, and about 2,000 runners will be running 21 kilometers for the first time.”
The half marathon can also be completed in two-person relay teams at the Kométa Half Marathon Relay for two and three-person teams at the Xylem Half Marathon Relay for 3. For those preferring shorter distances, the Szimpatika 10-kilometer race and the 2.3-kilometer Wizz Air Lágymányos-round will also be held, all starting from the race center on the Péter Pázmány promenade in Budapest’s 11th district.
