Szombathely, Zalaegerszeg, Veszprém, Kaposvár, Szekszárd, Pécs, Békéscsaba, and Eger could be the those Hungarian cities to see an increase in the number of coronavirus infections in the next 1-2 weeks, based on wastewater samples taken by the National Public Health Centre (NNK).
NNK wrote that according to our current level of knowledge, Covid-19 is not transmitted through water or wastewater.
However, a number of international studies confirm that an increase in the number of symptomatic cases in a given community follows an increase in the concentration of hereditary material detected in wastewater within at least 4-10 days. Based on the research, the virus’ genetic material has been increasingly present in samples taken from wastewater treatment plants in the aforementioned locations.
