Vietnam’s Only Hungarian Restaurant – Zoltán’s Little Hungary

Robert Velkey 2017.10.11.

In the latest installment of our (semi)regular segment, Wow! Really?, we examine little-known or unexpected facts about Hungary and Hungarian culture. Today, we take a look at a Hungarian restaurant located in perhaps one of the last places on earth one would expect it to be: Vietnam.

It’s called  Zoltán’s Little Hungary, and it’s an authentic Hungarian restaurant located in the southern coastal city of Nha Trang.

Zoli made his way toward Vietnam beginning in 1996, when he left Hungary for Egypt. After a few twists and turns, he ended up in Cambodia as a dive master. It was at this point that  he decided to start the business of making (Hungarian style) sausages with his Vietnamese friend Ngoc Chau. After their food started become more popular among customers, they decided to wade through the bureaucratic red tape and open  Vietnam’s only Hungarian restaurant.

After a year of preparation, Zoli’s Little Hungary was already open, waiting for hungry visitors as the “First authentic Hungarian restaurant in Vietnam.”

They cook all kind of Hungarian food such as crepes, chicken stew, goulash soup, chicken paprikás, and much more. They even offer Unicum for their visitors.

If you still don’t believe us here are some of the comments visitors have written regarding the restaurant:
