Hungary’s film industry is “buoyant” these days, according to a fresh article published by Variety. The popular American entertainment magazine investigates how Hungary’s “tax incentives, skilled workers and low costs lure filmmakers”, claiming a spot for Hungary as “one of the world’s top production destinations for Hollywood movies.”
“We are back on the map,” Variety quotes Hungarian Film Commissioner and well-known American-Hungarian Hollywood producer Andy Vajna as saying, adding that Hungarian films have been winning major awards recently, including an Oscar for Son of Saul and a Golden Bear for On Body and Soul. The article, written by Leo Barraclough, also points out that Hungary hosts a dozen of foreign film productions a year, including many Hollywood movies such as Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling or Atomic Blonde with Charlise Theron.
