British actress, Vanessa Kirby, who plays the main character of Kornél Mundruczó’s film entitled Pieces of a Woman, was nominated for an Oscar on Monday in Los Angeles, MTI reported.
The movie by the Hungarian director is about a young mother’s home birth which ends in unfathomable tragedy. As she begins a year-long odyssey of mourning that fractures relationships with loved ones, her deeply personal story as a woman learning to live alongside her loss is revealed.
In addition to Kirby, Viola Davis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Frances McDormand (Nomadland) and Carrey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman) received nominations from the American Film Academy.
The most nominations, altogether ten, for this year’s Oscars went to David Fincher’s film, Mank. Also included in the field of best films were The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
