According to a press release from the Hungarian government, on Friday Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Press Chief announced that the “President of the United States Donald Trump has written a letter to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán thanking him for his message of congratulations written upon the President’s inauguration”.
Following Trump’s inauguration, Orbán sent a letter of congratulations to the new US President, writing that “Your historic election victory gives you a strong mandate from the American people to bring about change.” The Hungarian PM also added that “Our ever-growing economic ties; long-standing cooperation in areas, such as the fight against terrorism; our similar visions on economic and security policies, on the responsibility for the safety of our own citizens, and on border control and migration, give us a historic opportunity to shape the future together.”
In his recent response, President Trump wrote that he greatly appreciates the Hungarian prime minister’s support and encouragement.
In his letter, Trump wrote to Orbán that
“We are facing challenges, which, it is my belief, we are capable of overcoming jointly, through partnership. However, we also have huge opportunities to move forward towards the achievement of our common goals.”
