Our “Top of Hungary 2015″ series aims to represent fifteen episodes of the the year, which – according to our assessment – played an important role in the public, cultural or sport life of Hungary during the last twelve months. Regardless of the positive or negative aspects, we have evaluated the events separately, therefore our list reflects nothing more but the personal opinion of the editorial team.
The third most important event in Hungary in 2015: Sziget Festival in Budapest
The Hungarian capital’s flagship summer festival was held for the twenty-second time this year. Sziget 2015 saw a record 430 000 revellers party the week away between August 10 and 16 with three concerts – Robbie Williams, Avicii and Kings of Leon – attracted full-house audiences. The extreme heat of over 35 degrees Celsius on each day of the festival did not cause serious interruptions and the lack of rain was rather beneficial to the event.
While further increasing the festival’s maximum daily intake capacity of 90 000 party-goers is now impossible, it is still realistic to strive for visitors numbers nearing full-house each day of the one-week event, according to chief organiser Károly Gerendai. Following its victory in 2011, the Hungarian festival has again been voted Europe’s best at a contest held by European Festival Awards in January 2015.
