Gov’t: Hungarian Maths, Science Education among Best in Europe

MTI-Hungary Today 2020.12.08.

Hungarian maths and science education is at Europe’s leading edge, a ministry of human resources official said on Tuesday, citing the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study of fourth and eighth graders.

Hungarian students’ results exceeded the European average in three areas and were average in one of the four categories surveyed, Zoltán Maruzsa, the state secretary of public education, told a press conference.

The survey carried out since 1995, this time covering 64 countries, took place online for the first time. Whereas in other countries a corresponding decline in performance was seen, Hungarian students achieved similar results to previous studies, Sándor Brassói, acting head of the Education Office, said, suggesting they excel when it comes to using digital devices.
