The Artistic Festival called Devil’s Cauldron (Hungarian: Ördögkatlan) is an annual multi-cultural event held in four small villages in the beautiful Villány Wine region. This year’s jubilee festival, celebrating the festival’s 10th anniversary, kicked off in Villány on Tuesday, August 1st.
Here is a photo gallery to provide our readers with a taste of what you can find in the Devil’s Cauldron… First of all, great wines (with friendly prices); great company, because everybody is very open and kind, quality shows with international and Hungarian artists and bands (whatever you are looking for, the festival has it: theater, folk, circus, dance, talk-show), little and big concerts, other amazing and various programs and a whole week-long “on going” marketplace.
Although there are many taxis around during the festival, the best way to make friends is by hitch-hiking between the villages hosting events–because, as we’ve mentioned, the festival going on in 4 surrounding villages (Nagyharsány, Kisharsány, Palkonya and Beremend).
As it is a “smaller festival”, it has a very cosy and familiar feeling. You can get in touch with locals easily through renting their houses or gardens for accommodation. At the same time, there are famous performers and big concerts each evening… if you are looking for an authentic “festival-feeling”, you can find camping sites too not far from here.
If you are not far from Hungary you can make it, let’s get lost in the Devil’s Cauldron this week. Don’t hesitate to make your way to Nagyharsány…
