The issue of water binds countries, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Thursday in his closing address to the international 2019 Budapest Water Summit. “We share the water bases of the Earth, so we’re collectively responsible for preserving their volume and quality,” he said.

“Aid must be delivered where it is needed” so that people in countries hit by water shortages should not be forced to leave but helped to lead a decent life in their homeland,” the minister added.

“We don’t have decades, or even years, to resolve the problems facing us,” Szijjártó said, adding that work to tackle water crises should continue and pledging Hungary’s contribution to those endeavours.
