Ferenc Sullivan 2015.01.15.

Following its victory in 2011, Sziget has again been voted Europe’s best major European festival at a contest held by European Festival Awards, organisers told the Hungarian state news agency MTI. The winner was announced late on Wednesday evening in Groningen, the Netherlands. Sziget was among the finalists in as many as three categories, finally coming first in the category of best major European festival, as in 2012, overtaking festivals such as Roskilde, Tomorrowland, Rock Werchter or Rock am Ring.

The European Festival Awards were initiated in 2010 by the European festival association Yourope and the festival website Virtual Festivals Europe. The awards have been presented on an annual basis during the European Music Conference and Showcase Festival Eurosonic Noordeslag in the Dutch city of Groningen ever since.
