Hungary’s most popular summer festival, Sziget Festival, which recently came home with the award for the Best Line-up of the year from the 9th European Festival Awards, announced the first names in its 2018 line-up earlier this week, a list which includes Kendrick Lamar, Kygo, Mumford and Sons and Liam Gallagher.
This year, one of the headliners will be the Grammy-winner American rapper Kendrick Lamar, while former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, who just published his first solo albums also confirmed his attendance. London folk-rock band Mumford and Sons is coming to Sziget with an exclusive show which will be their only festival performance in Europe this summer, and British indie band Bastille will also be in attendance. The most popular Swedish singer Lykke Li is among the confirmed performers, as well as Norwegian DJ Kygo, and after last year’s last minute cancellation, Clean Bandit can be found among the scheduled performers again.
Here’s the full list of the first names. Rumor has it that new names will be announced next week as well!
This year’s Sziget Festival, also known as the Island of Freedom, will take place between 8-15 August, on the Hajógyári island in the middle of Budapest. Early Bird tickets are available until January 31st at 6 p.m.
Last summer, around 450,000 people attended the 25th Sziget Festival. Hungary Today also spent time on the Island of Freedom, rocking out with incredible Chinese-Mongolian rock stars, wandering through a surreal inflated playground that seemed straight from the latest Blade Runner, and, perhaps least memorably, watching Iggy Azalea dial it in. We also learned more about what goes into running such a colossal musical endeavor through an interview with one of Sziget’s chief organizers.
You can find a selection of the new names on the official Spotify playlist of Sziget 2018:
